Abba Award Communities is more than just a nonprofit—it is a deeply personal mission driven by the love of a family that understands first hand the challenges and blessings of autism.
Our family—William L. McCord III (CEO) and Wife Felicia McCord, along with our three children, Kayla McCord (CFO), Trevor, and Jenna—has been profoundly shaped by autism. Trevor, our middle child, is severely autistic. He is almost completely non-verbal, requires 24 hour assistance and also suffers from epilepsy. While he may not express himself through words, Trevor communicates in ways more powerful than speech. He is one of the most loving, gentle, and kind individuals we know, and he has taught us invaluable lessons in patience, unconditional love, and true happiness.
But autism, while beautiful in many ways, is also difficult some days. As parents, the worry of what will happen to Trevor when we are no longer able to care for him is constant. Every parent of a special needs child shares this fear. Who will provide for them? Where will they live? Will they be safe? These questions keep us awake at night, knowing that so many autistic individuals do not have a secure future.
For over two decades, William has carried the dream of creating a safe, supportive community where autistic individuals like Trevor can thrive even after their parents can no longer care for them. A place where families can stay together for the duration of our lives and where, if a family is no longer there, their loved one is not moved from where they live, and are still surrounded by compassionate caregivers, friends and a nurturing environment.
The statistics are heartbreaking—over 12% of the homeless population, about 77,148 people in our country, are autistic individuals. Many autistic individuals are institutionalized, placed under state care with no family, or left on the streets if they do not have any loved ones who are able to provide for them. This is not the future we want for anybody. Abba Award Communities was born out of our determination to change this reality.
Through our nonprofit, we aim to develop housing communities that provide lifelong support, medical care, and enriching programs for autistic families. Our mission is to keep as many autistic families together as possible while also ensuring that those without families still have a place to call home. This is not just a vision—it is a promise. A promise to families like ours that their loved ones will always be safe, loved, and supported.
Abba Award Communities is not just about providing housing. It’s about providing hope.
We are a Pending 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization, and we currently cannot take donations until our 501(c)(3) status is approved. That being said, a substantial donation could help us expedite our approval. This would help us move forward with our Non Profit and be one step closer to building our communities. If you are interested in making a substantial donation and need to do so as soon as possible, please contact William McCord, our CEO at themccordteam@gmail.com
